The Lounge Turns 5: A Father’s Day Reflection on Dreams, Family, and Community

Today marks five whole years since I took the biggest leap of my life — and what a journey it has been. From a single dream to what our community now calls the best hair salon Bay City has to offer, this milestone feels even more emotional because it falls on Father’s Day.
[Note: I wrote this reflection on our actual anniversary – Father’s Day – but between family time, celebrations, and the beautiful busy-ness of summer, I’m just now getting it up on the blog. Sometimes life moves faster than our posting schedule, and honestly, that feels exactly right.]
[Update: Now that July 4th has also passed, I feel compelled to add this – thank you to my father for his military service and to all the men and women who have served our country. The timing of our anniversary falling between Father’s Day and Independence Day feels so meaningful. We’re grateful to live in a country where dreams like ours can come true.]
Built on a Foundation of Strong Men
I was raised by strong, entrepreneurial men: my dad and both my grandpas. Men who built their dreams with their hearts and community at the center. I carry them with me every single day, but especially today. Their courage, their hustle, and their belief in building something from the ground up — that was part of the fire that lit this dream. Their grit is in my bones, and I feel it more than ever today.
The Truth About Building Dreams
Truthfully, there were moments I didn’t think I’d make it. Moments of fear, of exhaustion, of wondering if I was crazy for trying to build a business during a global pandemic, no less. But I told myself then:
“If I’m gonna do this, I’m gonna find out if I sink or swim.”
And here we are… still swimming, baby. ✌🏻
Actually, we’re doing more than swimming. We’re thriving. We’re growing. We’re loving. We’ve created something more than just a business — we’ve built a family. ❤️
My Heart: The Team That Makes It All Possible
My team (my people) are my heart. We have weathered storms, celebrated victories, and loved each other through it all. I don’t know what I did to deserve them, but I thank God every day for their loyalty, their passion, and their unwavering belief in what we’re doing.
When I say my team loves each other, we mean it 🥰 Some of us had fun a couple of Sundays ago 🫶🏻 — these moments remind me that what we’ve built in Suite 324 is so much more than a business.

And speaking of commitment… some of my girls took their love for this place to the next level by getting “324” tattooed. When I see those numbers on their skin, I get emotional every single time. It’s not just ink — it’s a permanent reminder that what we’ve created here goes deeper than just work. It’s family. It’s home. It’s a piece of their hearts that they’ll carry forever.
The Next Generation is Watching
And maybe the part that gets me the most — watching my kids grow up here. They’ve been right beside me through it all… sweeping floors, folding towels, running errands, and learning what it means to work hard for something you love. Just like my dad did for me, I’m showing them what it looks like to build from the ground up with heart, with hustle, and with faith — and what it means to create the best hair salon Bay City has ever seen.
They are my why. And they’re not just watching this dream unfold — they’re part of it.
